SNOW DAZE

The only silver lining to the winter and all the snow we've been getting is the salt and slush residue that gets left behind.  The textures and patterns that the salt creates on the pavement totally captures my imagination.  But really though I'm ready for spring.

GROUP SHOW

 I have been selected as one of four artists whose work will be shown in an exhibition entitled "Spirit of Community: Women and their Art" from February 27 - March 28 at the Interchurch Center Galleries in Harlem.  

I'm very excited about the show which is shaping up beautifully, 

opening reception on March 13th, 5:00-7:30pm.

Inspiration | Carrie Mae Weems

See Carrie Mae Weems' retrospective at the Guggenheim ASAP.  I cannot recommend this exhibit enough.  Her work is beautiful, moving and cheeky at times.  For those not familiar with her work check out this review in The New Yorker

I Who Have Arrived In Heaven

I braved the first snow fall to venture out to David Zwirner to see the Yayoi Kusama installation.  Even with the blizzard swirling outside there was a huge crowd,  but I must say the snow and the wait were well worth it.  The infinity rooms are beautiful and other worldly it's the kind of work that stays with you and I've been dreaming about it ever since.

I've been selected for a group show at Fourth Wall Project in boston. The exhibition highlights cell phone cameras as a widely used medium and seeks to show how far people push it.  This concept is right up my alley and I'm so honored to be a part of the project.

Inspiration | William Miller

A photography professor I had recently sent me a link to an article on William Miller's "Gowanus Canal"in which he works with the interplay between man made waste and light reflections in the canal.  I've never seen toxic waste,  poop, and dead animals look so damn good!  Also I die over his "Ruined Polaroids"  in which he used a broken camera to produce brilliant abstractions by crushing polaroid film.  Truly inspiring work TGIF.

Just now sitting down to look through all my shots from southern trips to Charleston and New Orleans. It's a lot to go through but here are a couple photos that I'm mulling over. Hope it was a good holiday!

As cheesy as it may be I have to credit apple somewhat for my growing interest into photography.  I always incorporated photography as a reference tool for my work in other mediums, printmaking in particular, but it is only recently that I've started to approach a photograph as a means to an end.   With the camera availability that Iphone presented (and all the editing apps), I began to treat it like a visual post-it note.  I started snapping all kinds of things that caught my eye to reference later for projects i had in mind and it enabled me to tease out themes that surround my work with warped speed.  Anyway, here are a few shots that i took from where i spiraled out and here represents some themes that I'm still teasing away at.  These all have to do with capturing water and air elements that forever capture my imagination.
